Share Your Story: Strength Through Struggle

Firefighting is a service that demands strength, but behind the daily selfless acts many fight through unseen struggles—depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, or other mental health challenges. Too often, these experiences remain in the shadows.

We believe that stories of resilience can be a light for others. By sharing your experience—whether it’s about reaching out for help, finding support, or discovering strength—you can help fellow firefighters know they are not alone. Your voice can inspire hope, break stigma, and encourage departments to build stronger systems of care.

  • We are collecting these stories for a book that will serve as a resource for firefighters everywhere, showing that healing and success are possible.
  • You may choose to answer the guiding questions provided, or simply write in your own words. After submission, we will reach out to you for follow-up.
  • Your story matters. Your journey could be the lifeline someone else needs.

Questions to spark your thought process:

  1. Have you ever faced challenges such as stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health concerns related to your work?
  2. If so, what led you to seek help, and when did that happen?
  3. Who or what resources did you turn to for support?
  4. What is one thing you learned through your healing process that you’d share with others?
  5. Have you introduced any practices or resources in your department to support mental health?
  6. Does your department provide mental health resources or evaluations? How do you feel about their approach?
  7. Would you be open to a follow-up conversation with us?
  8. Do you still maintain ongoing communication or support for your mental health?

All information is kept strictly confidential.

Your story will not be shared until we speak with you. Do we have your permission to contact you?
